Protecting Concrete with Concrete Coating

Concrete coating can be used wherever it is deemed necessary, especially where the concrete will get a lot of abuse from feet, cars, etc. A concrete coating is a chemical solution that stays on the surface of the concrete as an impenetrable layer, making the concrete surface impervious to water or other damaging forces. Concrete coating can also be used on the concrete in parking areas and structures to protect the structural steel body from water damage. By applying concrete coating on the surface, concrete is also protected from the damaging effects of salt.

Concrete coating mainly protects concrete from water seepage and damage. However, concrete coating also helps make concrete resistant to cracking. Concrete coating will adhere to nearly all types of materials used in construction -- block, concrete, SIPs and ICFs, polystyrene, etc. Depending on the construction material it is going to be applied on, concrete coating may take two or three coats.

You can find concrete coating at any home improvement stores. If you are doing a very large construction project involving concrete, it may be more cost effective to contact coating dealers directly. You can find them through home builders associations. The Internet is another fabulous resource for products and information about the products. You may want to consult with or hire a professional concrete coating contractor, who can best judge the size and scope of your job.
