When Should Concrete Stains be Applied?

Every contractors may feel differently about when is the best time to apply concrete stains. Many have the opinion that a concrete stain should be applied once concrete has been placed. Doing so gives the stain a much richer and more vibrant color. Then there are those contractors who believe that concrete stain should not be applied until the concrete has cured from a period of ten to twenty five days. Whichever method of concrete staining you choose to go with, the project needs to be completed before the contractors move on. This way any damage that occurs can be fixed while construction is still in progress. It will also save on clean up time for your project by ensuring the concrete staining is finished as well as any sealing and covering.

How is Concrete Stain Applied?

Concrete strains can be applied with a sprayer or a paintbrush. Special care needs to be taken when using sprayers. Ensure that the sprayer doesn’t have any metal parts and that it has a low acid level. Acids will have an effect on the metals, in turn affecting the color of the stains. Factors such as the weather condition present at the time the stain was applied, even the moisture content and the concrete's age at the time of application could have an effect on the concrete stain's final color. Also, the type of concrete used, the properties in the concrete and the concretes finishing quality can influence the final color of the stain.

Equipment Used to Apply Stains

Different equipment can be used to apply concrete stains. A grinder or a buffing machine equipped with sanding pads is a popular option among contractors. Power-washing equipment is another popular option. Extra care needs to be taken by workers if this method is used to ensure their safety. Gloves, boots, goggles facemasks and any other safety equipment should be used at all times. Equipment should be checked to ensure that it is acid-resistant. A wet vacuum is recommended for its ease of clean up.
